Up and coming mezzo-soprano Sydney Frodsham has proven herself to be a versatile and talented young opera singer.
With performances ranging from Baroque to contemporary music, Sydney imbues each of her performances with artistry and emotion.
Her recent engagements include the role of Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Irene in Theodora, and Bradamante in Alcina at Brigham Young University and Southern Methodist University, respectively. Sydney was also preparing to be a first-year Apprentice Artist with the Santa Fe Opera, covering the role of Dritte Dame, before the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 crisis. She will be joining the Atlier lyrique program with Opéra de Montréal for the next two years.
Sydney has performed as a soloist with a number of ensembles, including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (Knabenalt in Das klagende Lied) and the Dallas-based chamber ensemble Voices of Change (La razon del viaje, Tibet Fantasia). In 2018 she received an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions—Utah Region.
Sydney graduated with her Master of Music from Brigham Young University in 2020, studying with Darrell Babidge and Diane Reich. She received her Bachelor of Music from Southern Methodist University in 2018, studying under Virginia Dupuy.
